– A perspective on home entertainment, home healthcare and enabling
technologies

With the fast evolution of digital and networking technologies,
people enjoy more home entertainment and have started to explore home
healthcare. In this note, we describe architecture options for some future
smart home applications, and the key enabling technologies/solutions that
are being standardized, in the areas of home networking, security and
Digital Rights Management, personal home healthcare, etc.
We’ll attempt to present examples of applications for personal entertainment
and personal healthcare at home, which will benefit consumers in
- convenient use of digital content
- timely elderly care
- Easy access to personal health records
About the speaker:
Dr. Zhuang received a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering
in the United Kingdom. He then worked in telecommunication industry in
the United States, where his roles and responsibilities ranged from research,
engineering, and product line management. His research interests covered
advanced materials, fiber optic networking, and wireless communications.
Dr. Zhuang published more than 20 papers in conferences and academic journals.
Dr. Zhuang is currently with Philips Research Shanghai, managing Philips
Emerging Market Lifestyle Program, the research activities of which include
digital rights management, home networking, IPTV, AV processing, and other
applied research subjects. With Philips Dr. Zhuang has been intimately
involved in the innovations for connected living, home care, and personal
care solutions, and managed activities to turn innovations into a business.
