The Special Session on Security and Privacy Issues in Ubiquitous Healthcare Technology and Service (SPI-UHTS 2008)
December 13 ~ 15, 2008
Hainan Island, China
Overview
This special session of SERSC will bring together researchers with different backgrounds that relate to research in ubiquitous healthcare and wellness. Research on feasibility of healthcare employing mobile, wearable and pervasive computing has emerged rapidly during recent years, and new application concepts, technical solutions and service have been demonstrated. The research has been targeted in applications both hospital and home domain, and has extended to creating new systems not only for purposes of medical and health care for elderly people who has disorders such as heart failure, hypertension, Alzheimer, mobility or cognitive impairments but also for people being monitored their physical activity for managing obesity, diabetics or daily calorie consumption. The technical progress in mobile, wearable and pervasive computing and in the assistive infrastructure, e.g. with data transfer and device interoperability, have eased the embedded and wireless applications in the area. As ubiquitous healthcare deals with personal health and medical information, the technology and service should seriously consider user¡¯s privacy and its security. In this special session, we will provide a venue to present novel research in this field and to openly discuss ideas and problems on the topic. The topics discussed in this special session with its various aspects will definitely offer valuable insight to the further research and development of groundbreaking outcomes in privacy and security in ubiquitous healthcare technology and service.
